So does everybody else
Hi and welcome to my latest collection of musings. I am so grateful you are here and please subscribe! xx
Act Cool
If you don’t follow my social media (apologies to those who do - I’ll stop talking about it, soon), I received my first press feature on Architectural Digest’s Clever. To say that this placement is a dream come true is an understatement.
There is a long list of people with whom without the launch of my career would not have been possible, but none more so than Marianne. Her help, guidance and intelligence (both spiritual and otherwise) got me to this point. You’re only as good as some luck and your publicist. And thank you forever to Thea.
Fast Design
Like for many, the Concorde habitually fascinates me - and I (really) don’t like to fly. A pioneer in supersonic air travel, the Concorde flew commercially for 27 years, from 1976 to 2003, and could travel between London and New York in under four hours. Traveling on it meant you were busy and important - a member of an exclusive jet set club that embodied the glamour and wealth of the times.
I came across an article about Andrée Putman’s redesign of it's interior for Air France in 1993. It was the fourth iteration of it’s interior design, the first having been done by Raymond Loewy, and the second and third, in 1985 and in 1988, by Pierre Gauthier-Delaye.
At the time, it was a radical departure in internal aesthetics for the aircraft - one marked by clean lines, neutral tones and stark simplicity. And I enjoyed reading further about Putman - a fascinating, forward-thinking creative force of her time. A French grande dame of design, she certainly had a point-of-view:
“Unless you have a feeling for that secret knowledge that modest things can be more beautiful than anything expensive, you will never have style.”
Say less.
About Time
My friend Brynn of Dimepiece, the “femme forward resource for anyone who might be into watches, from First Dimers, to seasoned collectors,” recently launched her Substack newsletter, The Dimepiece Dispatch. Brynn is an incredibly talented writer and creative - her perspective is perennially smart, interesting and casually sophisticated whether talking watches, the luxury sector, or otherwise. It’s been exciting to watch her career and influence grow (we’ve come a long way since freshman year, baby), and I suggest subscribing to all forms of her content. You can read more about her in this NY Times profile.
Cinderella
I talked about buying these a few newsletters ago and I am so pleased I pulled the trigger. These weird little animal-printed mesh footies complete with glitter dot detailing are shockingly comfortable and versatile (I was literally like “what even are these?” when I first took them out of the box). I wear them down with jeans and up with little black dresses. A lot. If you follow suit, note they run 1/2 size large.
These times lol
I thoroughly enjoyed this recent article about the new travel trend rampant on TikTok, Instagram and other social media sites - posting images of aesthetically pleasing airport security trays. Indeed, those gray rectangles of hell. It’s laugh-out-loud funny and in these times, heartwarming to have a polarizing subject as innocent as the shared universal hell of the TSA experience written about. A few nuggets:
“They don’t look very nice,” said Alexandra Le Sueur, 26, who had recently seen someone arrange one in Denver. The trays themselves, she said, were “disgusting.”
“Across the country, at La Guardia Airport in New York City, a sense of skepticism prevailed. New Yorkers did not seem eager to add an obstacle to their trips.”
“The Transportation Security Administration is aware of the trend, but a spokesperson said the agency had no problem with it “as long as the staged glamour photos are not causing delays or issues with other passengers in the checkpoint.”
I, personally, can’t deny the content is… chic??
Dressed
And for anyone still here, and with a savory tooth - I have only good things to say about this dressing.
Thank you Lucy! <333333
The article is fantastic! Such beautiful design! The way you think and describe the process blows me away! You are a true artist and those that get to work with you are so very lucky! To provide clients with a sense of "place" must be very fulfilling.
I am also so thrilled to see something in your newsletter that I love! This time...salad dressing!
Thanks for providing the best read I get all month! Can't wait for the next one!
